I Can’t Stop 3D Printing With Wood Filament – Tree With a Face Ender 3 Pro Octolapse

Wood 3D printing filament is more than just wood colored plastic. If it is true wood 3D printer filament it will have up to 30% wood in the form of cork or sawdust added to the filament to give the finished version the look and feel of real wood. This Kodama tree by Kodama3D on Thingiverse seems custom made to be 3D printed in wood filament. This print is probably only second to Groot in my favorite wood filament models. While most wood filament looks more like balsa wood, I chose my wood filament in a dark wood Rosewood from Priline which has Padauk wood added to the filament(Link to the Priline Wood Filament at the end of the description)

3D Printed Wood filament is naturally stringy due to the presence of wood mixed with the actual plastic. I live in Florida and high humidity is a constant reality here. This wood filament likely needed to be dried before printing. Unfortunately since the 3D print structure is pretty cylindrical, I did not realize the issue until it got to the upper branches. Turning down the temperature might have helped the wood filament to be less stringy, but I didn’t want to risk a clog 10 hours into the print. The Priline wood filament description on Amazon does mention that you should use a larger nozzle for this filament to avoid clogging. I have personally never run into a clogging issue and always use a .4mm nozzle, but make your own judgement based on your 3D printer’s abilities.

How Time Lapse 3D Prints Work
After each .2 MM layer( That is barely thicker than a sheet of paper!) the 3D printer pauses, moves the extruder to the rear of the printer, takes a photo and then continues the print giving the illusion of the print appearing from thin air.
