3D Printed Lichess Horsey Knight Chess Piece Time Lapse

3D printing a chess piece as magnificent as the Lichess.org Horsey was truly memorable. I took the flat 3D model of the Lichess Horsey from Thingiverse.com posted by xSpacex and used my poor 3D print modelling skills in Tinkercad to thicken him up and allow him to 3D print vertically for the proper time lapse effect. I shall not stop with the Lichess Horsey. It is only the beginning! Since Lichess is completely open source, I plan on modelling several more of the Lichess chess pieces including the Bishop.

History of the Lichess Horsey
The Lichess Horsey was introduced in April 2020 as the “new official” Lichess Logo with a full set of pieces created by Lichess Artist “Cham”. While it was a great April Fools joke, Lichess took it a step further by making the Lichess Horsey and his set available year round. You can play with the Lichess Horsey on Lichess by clicking the menu in the top right hand corner of the screen, then choosing “Piece Set” and scrolling to the bottom to choose the Lichess Horsey.

How Are My 3D Prints Made?
All of my 3D Time Lapses are printed on a Creality Ender 3 Printer with a Raspberry Pi B handling the time lapse coordination. 3D printing requires a large amount of patience with many models running taking 12+ hour to complete and several printing for well over a day. Each layer is between .1 and .2 mm thick. Think the thickness of a sheet of printer paper! I used Marble White PLA 3D Printing Filament to print this model.
